DR. EUGENIO FIGUEROA


Dr. Eugenio Figueroa is a registered Suzuki teacher in violin, viola, and piano with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. He currently serves on the faculty of The Hartt Community Division and the Music School at Sound Crossing. He previously taught at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, the Escuela Preparatoria del Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, and Kids and Musik, the first Suzuki school in Puerto Rico. His dedication to Suzuki education has also taken him to workshops and institutes throughout Texas, Atlanta, and Puerto Rico.

As a violist, Dr. Figueroa earned his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Viola Performance from The Hartt School, where he studied under Rita Porfiris. His commitment to the Suzuki philosophy brought him to Connecticut, where he completed a Master’s degree in Performance with an emphasis in Suzuki Pedagogy, along with Long-Term Suzuki Teacher Training under Teri Einfeldt and Christie Felsing. He has also received additional viola training and mentorship from April Losey, Julia Hardie, and Betsy Stuen-Walker. His Suzuki piano teacher training includes studies with Caroline Fraser, Mary Craig Powell, Marina Obukovsky, and Gail Lange.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Figueroa is passionate about chamber music and orchestral performance, and especially enjoys opportunities to accompany his students on the piano.
